We are happy to announce that today we have launched the mobile version of this website. Visitors should have a much easier time viewing and navigating The McCune Collection on devices with smaller screens. When visiting the site from a mobile device you should automatically be provided with the mobile version, but in the off chance you're not then there is a mobile icon on the right side of the page header that will take you to the mobile version. A large part of the development process for the mobile site involved going through all the existing pages and making standardizing their layout, so now all pages and image galleries should have a more consistent look and feel. And while we were at it, we also brightened the color of links to make them more visible.
We are also excited to announce that starting in April the McCune Collection will be open to the public from 5:30-9:30pm on the second Friday of each month as a regular venue of Vallejo's 2nd Friday Art Walk. For the first time in many years, the McCune is expanding the hours it is open to the Public, and this is first the time it has ever offered regular evening hours. Each month the McCune will also feature the work of one or more local artists on exhibit in the McCune Room. During 2nd Fridays only, visitors can enter the McCune Collection directly from the staircase on the plaza at the corner of Georgia and Santa Clara Streets. Beverages and snacks will also be served. Any artists interested in exhibiting their work on a 2nd Friday in The McCune Room should contact us either via phone (707) 674-4082 or via e-mail mccunecollection@mail.com.

Today we introduced a redesign of the main navigation interface. The navigation links and site search box that showed up in the page header were moved into a new toolbar that stays fixed at the top of the screen where it's always accessible. The links, which were previously being displayed as images, are now regular text that is styled with CSS so that fewer images need to be loaded. For easier navigation of the entire site we also implemented drop down menus which display when the mouse is hovered over any of these links. The left sidebar navigation box has been removed, but a very similar navigation box can now be found under the icon with the three horizontal lines stacked on each other.

Investigated the reason behind why these pages look different and seem to have several missing elements when printing. The answer is that by default, in order to save you ink, web browsers do not print background colors or images. With Internet Explorer, this behavior can be changed by going to the Tools > Internet Options menu, selecting the Advanced tab, scrolling down until you see the Printing section, and checking the box marked Print background colors and images. In Firefox, this option can be found on the File > Page Setup menu.

Tuesday, December 11, 2007 1:30pm
Rearranged the photos on the Kelmscott Chaucer section. Introduced a JavaScript function that would alter all internal links to point towards the McCuneCollection.com domain instead of the McCuneCollection subfolder on the AbsoluteAnime.com domain. Unfortunately, there are two disadvantages to this. First, the host (mydomain.com) doesn't seem to pass along page anchors (which allow jumping to a section within a page), and second, the page titles won't display in the web brower's title bar. Thus, this functionality has been disabled until these issues can be resolved.
Friday, December 7, 2007 3:30pm
Added code to prevent the Site Updates page from being cached by web browsers. Added an image gallery consisting of 11 photos to the Kelmscott Chaucer section.
