Executive Director of The Society for the History of Navy Medicine, Dr. Snyder speaks about the hospital’s origins, beginning with Commander David Farragut’s arrival on the island in 1854 and continuing on for the next hundred years. Illustrated with original photos and enhanced by official Naval correspondence, Dr. Snyder’s talk depicts the long and storied history of Mare Island’s hospitals and his own commitment to preserving their rich legacy of service.
