Harper’s Weekly. A Journal of Civilization.

This was an American illustrated magazine published from 1857 through 1916. During the Civil War, it was widely read by the American public. In 1860, it had approximately 200,000 readers. The magazine was noted for its illustrations. Some of the important illustrators were Thomas Nash, Winslow Homer, Granville Perkins and Livingston Hopkins.

The McCune Collection has copies of the reissued Harper’s Weekly - Volume VI, #313(27 Dec 1862) thru Vol ume 7 # 369 (23 Jan 1864). These are extensively illustrated and tell of the progress of the Civil War as well as containing advertisements of the times.
