Burton Holmes (1870-1958)

Holmes was a world traveler, lecturer, photographer, and made films of his travels. He is credited with coining the term “travelogue.” Traveling around the world a number of times, he would photograph and film the sights and then use these tools in his lecture series. In the early 1900, Holmes published a ten volume set of his lecture series. Burton Holmes received a star on Hollywood Boulevard for his filmography. One of his sayings was: “To travel is to possess the world.”
