Author and Commentators
Abby Fisher (1831-after 1910). Abby was a slave born in South Carolina. She married Alexander C. Fisher and the couple had eleven children. After the Civil War, they lived in Mobile, AL. In 1877, they moved to San Francisco. She had a business there where she manufactured pickles, preserves, brandies, and fruits. Since neither she nor her husband could read or write, she was required to dictate the recipes for the book. She is last found at age 77 in the 1910 San Francisco, CA with her husband, age 70, and two daughters.
